In Beloved Memory of Honey

Memorial Service February 1, 2003

We are gathered today in loving memory of Honey who left this home today.  We are here to pay tribute to a faithful and trusted friend.

For some people, the death of a pet may represent the greatest loss they have ever encountered.  Only people that have pets as family members can truly understand this statement.

Acknowledging loss and the feelings that go with it are an essential part of healing.  Expressions of grief are the way we move through our pain toward acceptance and resolution.

We need the opportunity to cry, to represent our true inward feelings even more, we need to have our feelings affirmed by others. Of course, no one else can fix our pain.  There are no magic words; anyone can say that will fill the gap left when a beloved pet dies. But while no one else can take away our grief, the care and concern of others insures us that we need not mourn alone knowing that others have with similar loses, our own sorrow becomes easier to bear.

Death is the soul’s journey across a mysterious bridge that connects the physical and the ethereal.  Those who have had a near death experience appreciate such a passage and describe it as luminous, timeless, and filled with sound, color, and magnificent light. Usually such people return from a near-death experience no longer afraid of death and what lies beyond.  Dying and death is a journey that do not deserve all the fear and despair we give it.

It is our soul journey and that of our beloved pet to be on this earth plane. To experience the joy and sorrow of our short time together.

We live in our memories.  We acknowledge Honey and pay tribute to herfor all she has given us.We are assured Honey is in heaven with all the other heavenly creatureswaiting for you all to come back to God’s home.

Today we say” Goodbye to Honey knowing that she will always remain in our hearts and souls forever.

No More Tears

The Time has come for the tears to end.

For you to be happy and cheerful again.

I am safe In God’s home above

cradled in His arms, covered with His love.

We run and play by the Bridge all day

Waiting for the day when you’ll be here to stay.

You’ve been crying so much I feel bad

I want you to be happy and not so sad.

Remember I will always love you all forever.

The Prayer of St. Francis- Patron Saint of Animals

 Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love.

Where there is injury, pardon

Where there is doubt, faith

Where there is despair, hope

Where there is darkness, light,

Where there is sadness, joy

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;

To be understood, as to understand, To be loved, as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive pardoned;

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
